What my friend Josh wrote today in his journal struck a nerve. (user: Astramlunara) He talks about a lot of important things I think. Chief amongst them is how we, as a society and a culture treat our dreamers. Would we really want to live in a world devoid of art, music and creativity?

The fact that no one of his friends and family are supportive of him is scandalous! *angry glare* Everyone should be encouraged to dream. To follow their passions. Not forced to conform to a narrow view of what is 'proper'. How many tragedies would we avoid if we could just live by the simple principal that different ideas and lifestyles are to be embraced? Not ruthlessly trod on until the poor soul is left bleeding and mangled by their experiences?!

Before you bein to think that I may be as guilty as any of you, *points randomly* let me tell you that I have put a friend through college for photography, I've helped another with poetry and encouraged yet another to follow his art. None of these things should be extra-ordinary!

As a civilisation we should... no, we NEED to encourage these things! Yes, we need clerks and office workers and such. But we NEED to encourage the spark of creativity wherever it lands. Not come to say that DESPITE the odds, so and so has succeeded. Shame on us!

Without frothing at the mouth, I'll add one more observation to the rant. That observation is that we live in a country founded on the idea of personal freedoms. Namely; life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness. Each person has their own ideas of how these apply to themselves, but I can't imagine that our grand ideals have been well served by our society to date.

Understand that our society today is, by and large, juvenile. We assume that because something is right for ourselves then it must be right for everyone. Personally, I don't want anyone telling me that I'm morally obligated to eat my brocolli. *yech*

To often I see a proponent of an idea telling us we must believe. NO. And I say no again! You're different? So what! So am I! So is everyone else in this wide multi-verse. I defy you to find two beings that agree completely. Why should we?

Why should my outlook, unless it DIRECTLY affects you cause you even a moments consideration? If I like caffienated soda and you find it an affront to God, should I stop drinking it? By extension, if I want to marry a man, what possible impact would that have on you?

Our constituition spells it out in no uuncertain terms. I have basic rights while I live in this country. They may be broadly categorized as a right to reasonable actions without fear of interference. Whether it be from State, Church or fellow Man.

Think about it. If we truly wish to mature as a society, perhaps we should all stop tattling and tend to our own development. *nods* Wouldn't we truly be a land of the free and the home of the brave?
