Mom's back in the hospital -_-
Sep. 5th, 2004 12:45 am Yeah, mom had severe swelling because she was retaining water. We were concerned in the past few weeks and I had talked to both Dr. Longo and Dr. Wogalter about the degree of swelling and the difficulties she'd been having with walking. The first one insisted she stay sedentary. The second, even when I suggested diuretics refused to give her anything.
So, yesterday, after Aaron and I arrived in Boston, I gbegan to get calls from home telling me that mom was in trouble. EMS was called the first time but left after getting her back into her chair. Later, after resting, she was still unable to get up on her own. EMS was called back and they took her to Vassar Hospital. I'm told that the way they treated her in getting her out of the chair and onto the stretcher was just horrible. *cries*
I am so lucky to have both Josh and Kim there right now. Because of the amount of money both Aaron and I spent to be here, I've resisted the urge to run home. Mom is in the best place possible at the moment. The Cardiac Care unit at Vassar is excellent. I hope that she doesn't end up needing that by-pass surgery. I honestly hope that it is only the lack of exercise due to her foot trouble that has led to this crisis point.
Unless there is a change for the worse we plan to stay until Monday afternoon before heading back. I'll call work tomorrow and tell them what is going on and ask them to modify the rest of the weeks schedule. *sighs*
In itself, the convention has been quite good. Aaron is thoroughly enjoying himself here. I've managed to have a decent time too, though I wore out early today. I got to spend time with Patty this afternoon too. That was nice to be able to catch up with her.
I also enjoyed the Guest of Honour speech by Terry Pratchett and the Hugos tonight hosted by Neil Gaiman. Both are excellent speakers and quite remarkably funny.
Just a while ago, before heading back here to the room, I got to see the first episode of Space: 1999. That was fun to see again.
*Hugs everyone*
