K... I was having a conversation with a friend last night and he pointed out that there was nothing he enjoyed so much that he couldn't do without it. That really got me to thinking.

My thoughts went something like this... the only thing that we need to do to fulfill our 'destiny' is to exist. Everything else is 'window dressing'. We live our lives either going day to day or trying to find some grand 'meaning' and we succeed or fail by degrees.

But the idea of 'meaning' is one that we developed all on our own. I doubt that a mouse in the fields considers his role in the distribution of seed pods or that a wolf worries about his affect on the environment when he catches the mouse.

Simply put... they exist. For the reason of existing and promulgating their genome.

I told my friend that when you get to the bottom of all reasons it comes to making sure that you survive better than the next person. That's all.

So...we find happiness transitory. We find satisfaction fleeting. But the negatives we experience are transitory too. No day is so bleak that a smile can't improve it.

We get bogged down in believing that our struggles are the only ones and that we have the right to succeed at the cost of anothers failure. I can't believe that. I've always wanted to bring as many along for the ride as possible. The greatest good for the largest number, if you will.

So, find your meanings, they have value. Hold onto the happy moments, they'll see you through the dark times. But remember this.. all of it is transitory and each moments worth is subjective.
